Welcome to Flash Fiction Month 2014, Day One.

LEEEEET'S GEEEEEET RRREADY TO RRRRRUMBLE!!!!!!

Ahem, I mean right ho, chaps, chapesses and chappacinos, let's get ready to write some spiffing top-hole very short fiction.  I do hope you've got yourselves well strapped-in because we're going to kick matters off with a little challenge today - keep reading to find out more.

We just finished a warm up chat in the #FlashFictionMonth chatroom. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Instructions

Flash Fiction Month is about writing one piece of very short "flash" fiction (55-1000 words) every day of July.

Paste a link to your flash fiction piece for July 1st in the comments below.

Every day, there will be a new deviation where you can post a link to your piece of flash fiction for the day.

From time to time, we'll ramp it up a gear and ask you to try your hand at a challenge. It's your choice whether you do the challenge, but to be eligible for a weekly prize, you need to have completed all stories for that week, submitted them on time, and completed all the challenges.  If you complete every challenge and write a piece every day for the whole month, you might be in line for even better prizes, and you'll certainly get a whiter smile, be invited to more parties and improve your manly/womanly vigour.

If you decide to try the challenge, please put Challenge in your comment below, so we, and your fellow participants, will know. Otherwise, we might assume you didn't do it.

Everyone loves comments and encouragement, so do make an effort to encourage your fellow Flash Fiction Month participants. Let's help each other to have the best possible experience. A quick comment lets a writer know somebody's reading, and we all love that.

Flash Fiction Month - July 1, 2014

Challenge #1: Getting to know your fellow FFMers

Take a look at the Flash Fiction Month signup journal at flash-fic-month.deviantart.com… (quick, add your name if you haven't already).  Look at all those lovely usernames.  Get inspired.

Your challenge today is to write a story featuring, or inspired by, one or more of the usernames of your fellow FFM 2014 participants.  You can use the username(s) in your story in any way you like BUT the name in question CANNOT be the name of a character.

If you use someone's username, give them props in your post below (and don't forget to write Challenge!)

This challenge idea is from WishingUnderThatStar.  Thanks for the challenge idea!

Reminders

For those reading this who still haven't signed up for thirty-one days of fun, flashing (not suitable for readers with photo-sensitive epilepsy) and fiction, learn about Flash Fiction Month here, and then sign up here. It's never too late to join in the action.

Please make your fellow flashers feel that their efforts are worthwhile by reading their pieces and posting encouraging comments.

If all you're doing during July is writing thirty-one stories, you're missing out on two thirds of the fun. Check out the official Chat Room, where you can find encouragement, new prompts, and insanity in abundance.
